DM Speaks:
I understand you can argue the post but in the end the group fled and was NOT able to defeat Desicus. Even the paladin has given up hope and decided to leave the Sea Dogs. Desicus will continue his bidding with Beluiri and maybe at some time a group which is brave and strong enough will tackle this challenge which the Sea Dogs abandoned and couldn't accomplish.
I do believe a great deal of the failure was due to the "messages" Desicus sent to each of you (except 1) which led to uncertainty. You may say "no", but the reality is bringing any question into a difficult situation is always bad! Desicus has proven his strength and laughs at EVERY MEMBER of the Sea Dogs.
Unfortunately, with you assault upon him will he bring the offensive to you without question! He is a demonic human who can never be trusted, and he would love to kill you all for fun (and destroy more temples and churches).
DM Speaks:
This situation will be remembered as one of the most treacherous moments with regards to actual player characters acting upon or against one another for their personal survival or benefit. Crazy. I look forward to tomorrow to clear the air and talk about the game and characters moving forward. I DON'T mean "clear the air" with regards to any animosity amongst players but simple allowing us all to sit down and really discuss it. It will be good. I have much to say as well and questions I'd like to ask.
Sean Speaks: The last game was truly crazy. So much was happening behind the scenes. Wow, three out of four characters accepted the offer from Desicus. I will say that none of the characters that accepted the offer did not make any moves to betray any of their allies. Taladel was not the only target, So was Kylor, and another was free to take out any ally. However, Desicus was able in his games to sow serious doubt; so much so that a god felt that she needed to warn her worshipper, which caused the worshipper to doubt everyone and think that he had to take on Desicus on his own. As players, we all could have easily declined the offer, but we did not, we all had our own motivations for why our characters accepted. I cannot speak for others but for Kylor. Kylor is first and foremost a pirate who grew up on the Wicked Wench, and one teaching of Captain Bluebeard was "Survive to fight another day". Kylor planned to see how the battle was going and if it was going south quickly, at that point he would have done what he to ensure his survival and the possible survival of another. In doing so, Kylor and the one who survived would have empowered themselves to make another trip to the Abyss to recover the ones who have fallen, and hopefully take out Desicus. Does this make it right, no, but it was Kylor's plan as a plan B. However, Kylor did hope that we would have been successful in our attack as a group. This is why he had the wait-and-see perspective; which is demonstrated by the fact he made no moves to betray his allies. The following will show that Kylor was trying to keep the team united on their task and in their faith in each other, as a way to ensure the group's victory: Kylor Seahawk 6d
Replying to
Taladel
Kylor Speaks: Not sure what to say about this, not sure if it is trickery or real. Either case, look at the actions of each SeaDog, each has proven themselves so many times and has truly been there for every single group member. I do not doubt the loyalty and confictions of any SeaDog. We have each faced death before, so why is it now different? Heading into a serious battle is not the time to put doubt and suspicion into our group. Now more than ever we need to be united. Addressing what Dan was saying: What happens in-game is in-game and not out of-game. I do not want Mike to give up on Taladel. I feel that Taladel's story is not done. I feel that Taladel has a bigger story to be told. Some of the greatest stories have the heroes suffering a big defeat that pushes them together to defeat the big bad. Don't let this set back to be the end of the SeaDogs, we each have so much more to our story that needs to be told. So how are we going to handle this loss? We do have a lot to talk about at the table.
DM Speaks:
As mentioned, it is all character actions and nothing more. However, that doesn't mean that character actions in game can't be felt as players afterwards. Next week we will settle down and talk a bit. I'll admit I enjoyed the battle and the victory of Desicus and Beluri. He will undoubtably go down as one of the most epic and evil enemies and he lives on.
I could be wrong, but I believe Taladel may still feel he must be destroyed. If that's the case who knows what happens with the Sea Dogs. There will be some alignment changes without question.
ADDED POINT: I keep thinking about the situation that unfolded and hope you don't feel this was my fault. I gave characters options in private through a mental message from Desicus. There was NO magical compulsion to follow his offer, and he simply offered "life" if they aided him and betrayed their allies. Characters could have easily declined. Declining his offer did no harm.
Desicus played his cards right knowing some would bow to his betrayal offer plans. Sadly, some did which I loved for Desicus but hated for the group and the battle which unfolded. .
John speaks:
The other night was indeed crazy. I had my suspicions as both a player and a character. I agree with Mike. We were all nott as vested in this venture as his character was. I have not changed my stance since the beginning. I have said repeatedly , Quaivol doesn’t want to ve here, he’s only here because he is bound by the trump. However he went in the spirit of friendship and comradery, because he believed the people he journeyed with the past year or so in game time were his friends/allies.
I personally think there was a deal made between Kylo/Sindrax that they would get out of dodge if thinks started to look bad. I expressed this to Sean the last 2 weeks after the game on the way to the bus.
You guys said that the succubus that imprisoned you, told you that Taladel was dead and you could only assume that Quaivol was dead as well.
I think that is kind of BS , how can you assume anything without checking for yourself. I had my doubts about this mission but you know what I went forward to try and aid Taladel as best I could. Trying to buff, heal etc.
Yes I will go on record since everything is coming out. I knew I had a pretty good chance and my god call was my ace in the whole to survive. I didn’t have to take Taladel with me it was a risk and I took it because it was the right thing to do. At the very least I was hoping he would be given a proper burial with all of his items. Leaving him in the Abyss would have been wrong
I have other thoughts but I’ll share those in person
Not sure how we get past this, there is a definite split in the party
Kylor/Sindrax and Taladel/Quaivol
DM Post #100:
I'm not sure if you remember but there was a promise to an Empyrean that you would assist it from its imprisonment being tied upon a tree! IN THE ABYSS! It's picture and name are under the pictures section.
DM Speaks:
Last night was a tuff game in that character actions played a big role in your defeat. There was no united front and on top of that there was treachery, deceit and abandonment. Can Taladel and Quavol ever trust Sindrax and Kylor again? I don't know.
I hope all current members continue but that depends on next week and if this is discussed and remedied.
I do wonder what the Sea Dogs are going to do if they remain together. Desicus swore his continued onslaught and I'm sure you believe him. Do you move away from him in hopes he moves on to other things? Do you reattempt to destroy him in the Abyss? Do you hire helping hands to aid you in his destruction? Do you journey back under the Deacon Ocean knowing he did not bother you there last time? Do you take work on the surface and if necessary, deal with his minions if ever sent?
I'm very curious what the Sea Dogs are planning.
I feel we have a lot to discuss, next week. Not sure what was talked about, after I left. I am pretty sure, there was at least 15-20 minutes of conversation, about last night games. I am don't really know, what is happening, moving forward with the game.
Mike speaks:
This is probably my most disappointing moment in 20 years of playing here. 3 years of playing this character with this group, under exteremely challenging conditions, being the the only good character, and in our deciding battle....it was a complete washout....
We as a group did not even get to our enemy...and even if we had....we were not even really a group at all.
On a positive note, I was very proud to have played Taladel so bravely, being told by Iomedae he was alone...chose to charge Desicus, and was not effected by his cowering...and was injuring him...
In the end, he was a more powerful enemy and that is how it went..
I am very thankful John had his character pull Taladel out
I am open to brining Taladel back next week and see where it goes...and make a decision then.
DM Speaks:
Now, I'm calling you out.
Desicus and Beluri - FINISH - NO
Deep Sea Ruins of Dwakkah- FINISH - NO
SHE LAUGHS AND LAUGHS AND LAUGHS!
