So, we end an action-packed game with battling an illusion of the Angel of Hellwater. That illusion nearly took out the entire group. I hate to say it, but I felt the illusion had the TPK possibility! Now, I'm NEVER looking for a TPK (unless against a major NPC) but this I felt had the potential. If I didn't give ongoing hints and clues, I fear it may have. Maybe I'm wrong and post if you feel differently but I feel I may have indirectly saved the group.
Her illusion was powerful, but she may be even more.
Additionally, tonight, you had to battle an underwater Balhannoth, deal with a massive blade barrier and disbelieve a bunch of naga illusions! I can say it was a busy night!
On another note, is Viceak going to demand completion of his mission from Torog before the Angel of Hellwater mission is complete? Are the rest going to agree if he does or does he have to move forward on his own or suffer the wraith of Torag?
Next week you start looking into Area 3 with many different directions to go but first you must get past the underwater Balhannoth! Hope you all had fun. I DID!
Could this pic be a hint to the true lair of the Angel of Hellwater? I think I see her in the pic or is that simply another illusion? You will find out tomorrow. The picture has a BIG hint in finding her. If you don't figure it out remind me and I'll let you know.
I'm off tomorrow if you didn't guess!
DM Speaks:
From my perspective I think you've identified the interests of the 3 correctly. I'm not going to give my opinion but believe one direction is more sensible with regards to ease and timeliness than the other. At least it seems that way from what you know now. In the end BOTH have to be done it's just a question of which first.
Kylor speaks: So IF i am hearing you all correctly this is the outcome so far -- Taladel is for vanquishing the legendary underwater Balhannoth --
and endorses completing of the mission for the treasure of the Angel of Hellwater
for Captain Bluebeard
Viceak is for completing his mission from his god Torog --
before the completion of the mission for the treasure of the Angel of Hellwater for
Captain Bluebeard
Sindrax is for the mission for the treasure of the Angel of Hellwater for Captain Bluebeard
however, wants to avoid any conflict when possible ie not vanquishing the
legendary underwater Balhannoth
Takamora has been silent on where he stands for far ... As Leader, I will hold my thoughts till we have everyone's in.
Is my understanding correct ??
Meese friends, time for me to leave Angel of Hellwater mission for Torag kick me in the globes again. Me deal with Bluebird once meese return. Evil breeds up north and me stones need to sing. You in or out?
Kylor Speaks: I feel that Captain Bluebeard and the Wicked Wench deserve our loyalty. That said, I am not ready to throw our relationship with both away. This mission for the treasure of the Angel of Hellwater has raised many doubts and questions for me.
I am concerned for my well-being, but also for each of you. I also question if this mission for the treasure of the Angel of Hellwater is truly worth the risks. Especially since Captain Bluebeard’s track record with rewarding the group with whatever he whims.
Sindrax brings up a great point. As a group, we allowed for the Allis Habba Al' group to take advantage, walk all over and make us look like fools. Why, because we were fearful of them being too powerful and not invested in putting ourselves at risk, again for whatever reward that Captain Bluebeard whims and feels we deserve. But now there is a desire to fight a legendary underwater Balhannoth, a creature that is known to warp reality. Sorry, but I do not see the value or reward for putting everyone’s life on the line just because this creature is evil. It is legendary and thus definitely more power than us, especially since we are in its domain. I feel that tackling this challenge is truly foolish, especially if we were unwilling to face the Allis Habba Al' group.
At this point, Viceak’s mission from his god Torog has a greater value than this mission for the treasure of the Angel of Hellwater.
As a group, we need to dig deep and figure out what we are willing to do. Are we going to move forward and finish the treasure of the Angel of Hellwater or we going to complete Viceak’s mission from his god Torog. If we do decide to complete Viceak’s mission from his god Torog we can easily send a message to the Wicked Wench to inform them what we are doing and why..
SO lets discuss some real options-
Taladel speaks:
I cannot turn my back on vanquishing this legendary beast of evil...if any of you choose to do so, so be it. That is your choice to make. I look to Iomedae for the strength to defeat it...
My hope is one day soon, evil sees us and says..."how can we ever choose to face such legendary ones of good!"
DM Speaks:
I think part of it is you don't know where the real Angel of Hellwater is. You have to explore the caves to find the legendary treasure and where she is, is unknown. You found a cursed stash but are still on the hunt for the real treasure. Chances are the real Angel of Hellwater may be protecting it or maybe just another illusion is!
Secret Word for 500 XP's is - Troll and Toad - as always text, email or say it to me at the game. I can't make the chances to gain this any easier. Troll ad Tod is an online seller of minis and things we love. I buy from them regularly.
Last weeks game, was definitely scary. And yea, I do agree there could have been a TPK. That would have been horrible to have that happened because of an illusion. But it's part of the game. And just have to remember this situation moving forward. And learn from our mistakes. But as for the direction. I am having some doubts about this mission. Yes I am thinking of my wellbeing. But is that so bad?. I am surprised with the group. That everyone was so cautious to not battle the hubba bubba group. But we are now willing to just charge in, in a blaze of glory against some legendary beast. Really, why is that? I understand we have a mission to do. And I am not going to abandon the captain or the wicked wench. But we need to think this through. Do we even have to fight the beast? It seemed to not outright go after us. Can we swim around the cave and hug the walls to bypass it. Is it even guarding the treasure. Why fight it, if we dont have to.
Thanks Mike. Glad you enjoyed it. I had fun running that encounter but as it went on, I started to get worried for the group's survival. I did NOT want a TPK by an illusion, but I guess it would have been quite a memorable way to go in our game history.
This illusory encounter might have given you some hints on the Angel of Hellwater's power and battle strategy. Maybe this could work to your advantage and shed light on her power.
Yeah that was a scary one...it was tough for me because I figured it out early between the threat of a 4th attack in a round, and the detect evil aura blinking in and out...but I could not say a word as my character was "dead".
I knew a TPK was going to happen so I went to a god call, actually an Avatar of Iomedae to give a clue....good job Viceak and Kylor on figuring it out in 2 words!
I think that was the best illusion encounter ever in game!
