So, we start next week in an unnamed bar with Viceak and Taladel ready to face off against some other bar patrons along the shore who have pulled out rapiers and appear ready to attack. Let's not forget that Viceak and Taladel have arranged an agreement with Captain Bluebeard and his boat for 3 months service (starting date 12/28/714). The other 3 characters (Kadan, Sindrax and Takamaru) are already members of the fleet!
I was also happy to play a created card game! It's been a while and was fun!
Those are definitely key Sean, but I am also worried about my armor. Armor check penalties will kill me in any of those skills and more...I am thinking of keeping it off when we are at sea...
Or take the minor penalty -- and switch some skills around. I think these are the key skills to consider ... I am sure there are three or four others skills that could be good to have but these are primary for survival (I think)
Acrobatics (good for keeping balance on the water) Climb (good for climbing the rigging and rope ladders) Swim
Just something to consider
Just FYI. About what the DM said about your skills for this new campaign setting, for the old characters. Come 2nd level for, Viceak and Taladel. You guys can then start building skills towards the campaign. If you think about it, the 3 of us, will have 1 more rank, then you guys in swim, acrobatics, etc.
I have been thinking about the concept of a Paladin and LG Cleric traveling with a band of pirates...It would seem like a chasm between them on the alignment spectrum at first thought...And might be wrong about this, but it might not be as substantial at it seems. If I had to estimate the alignment of the captain and his pirates, I could land on Lawful Neutral. They are certainly not good, but I definitely do not see evil here. And they have to be lawful in the fact of following the captain and his laws. and running and operating a ship has to be very structured by nature...
So the alignments might only be one step away...Of course the pirates will pillage and that falls under their law as being allowed. but hopefully they can be convinced to concentrate on pillaging evil. Hopefully.....
DM Speaks:
For the new characters there might be the advantage of building their characters to this setting. However, for the two older characters there is always a skill, feat or spell swap. I'd be open to doing it for cheap considering the dramatic change. Always willing to work with all in the beginning and until the end. I personally am very excited by this scenario! Something new which I've never DM'd or played.
For those that see this as potentially tuff for their particular character view it as a challenge and have fun for the journey. Maybe you can change the seafaring people of the Wicked Wench. Now, nothing happens in days as things like that take time and effort but could be fun and a massive success story..
Mike speaks:
Yes this should be fun. I admit though I am worried about how Taladel is going to fit in the scenario here on the ocean. I am confident he can find a way to exist with the pirates. It is the boat and the dangers of the ocean that concern me most....Precautions will have to be taken. His heavy armor and a lack of certain skills have to be addressed. This will likely also pertain to Viceak...
Sean Speaks: Dan I fully agree with you, it was nice to start a new campaign and have a clean slate. To feel that you had freedom to do whatever, without the burden of past failures and mistakes. I also agree that this new campaign is something totally new for us as a group, it is fresh, new and exciting. John did a great job of incorporating previous existing characters into a new campaign that not only made sense but did the characters justice as well as, the new campaign. I like how the new characters and the old characters now have to navigate how to work with one another. The crewmates are trying to figure out themselves and how they fit on ship. The holy rollers are trying to negotiate their way with how to honor their commitment while not yielding on their morals and beliefs. I am truly excited to see how this plays out. I think each group did well with trying to build a bridge to start an alliance. I like that some small actions were in place to build some rapport. I can’t wait to see how the next chapter of the story unfolds for everyone.
Kadan Speaks: Avast Ye!! It looks like the dwarf and elf has gotten themselves in a bit of a scuttle with some scurvy dogs. Shiver me timbers!, we may need to intervene and assist the landlubbers or else they will be sharkbait for sure. We can’t maroon them, on account of the Captain’s investment in them, and their debt to the Captain. So, all hands hoy!! Let’s get ready to join the frey and save the necks of these bilge-sucking landlubbers.
My best attempt @ speaking like a dwarf- Well glaze my War Hammer, what have meese gotten meself into. I like the ocean like meese like goblins: green and grotesque. Where is Captain Bluebeard hiding these kegs? Meese need the thick and hearty stuff that will keep’em sickening ocean foods from coming up.
Last night was a blast. I will say. it was nice to kind of, just be free, to do what I wanted to do last night. Will I be and evil character, who knows, will I be good or neutral. I guess we will see. This campaign will be totally different than anything we have done. I feel like this reminds me of the time we did the underdarek thing. I am extremely cursiuos to see where this goes. It will be a fun ride.
DM Speaks:
I am throwing out an entirely different campaign. This is so different than anything we have played before. Some may love it and some may not have the love as much. Either way delve in and enjoy. I'm sure you will ALL have a blast and enjoy a different scenario when played out. It is still a Pathfinder game and all about battle and storyline which is prominent! I'm always trying to be creative and offer new and different scenarios. I personally am very excited with this one and am ready for some crazy sea faring adventure. However, as you see it is not all about the waters as pirates have issue with land lubbers as well.
