Hey All:
I'd like to get an idea of what excitement and adventure you'd like to see moving forward. Let me know what type of creatures, terrain, mysteries, scenarios or anything else you'd be most excited about to deal with as players. At this time there is great allowance and flexibility with the game. There are no true goals that need accomplishment and no major enemies that need be eliminated. That's a nice clean slate for now that can be taken advantage of.
So, give me your thoughts and opinions and if they work for me, I'll bring them into the game along with the winning mini that will be chosen soon when brought to the table!
One of my favorite, all time adventures, is. Journey to the Rock. B8. It's one of first modules I ever played and was kind of like an introduction in the game itself.
I totally agree about the starting point of Hommlet is is fantastic for low levels characters and totally brilliant in the way it make the player characters have a true connection to Hommlet and a reason to care for what happens to Hommlet and its people. So many great side quest and stories before even getting into the story of The Temple of Elemental Evil ... because the DM can control how slow or fast certain events occur to ensure the party is ready for the next challenge.
Isle of Dread is great for outdoor adventuring although we may need to be 3rd level. Village of Hommlet is a great starting point for The Temple of Elemental Evil.
The Keep on the Borderlands is awesome from what I recall however it also sounds like a lot of work for the DM ... but it could be totally worth it On the other hand, there is a module In Search of the Unknown B1 ... It is very easy to fit into any setting and has lots of room for the DM to improvise, and allows him to fit it anywhere he needs it. The greatest think I remember about it is all the random tables to roll for things like true and false rumors tables, treasure tables, monster tables, and things like that.
Yes it goes back to the old original DnD where there was an encounter or trap in every room...
The Keep on the Borderlands is very easy to introduce. Does not have a real "goal" per se. I haven't looked at that module in forever. I can recall a few rooms but do not remember most. Hmmmmm? I think I'm going to take a look.
UPDATE: So, I took a look and here is the funny thing. Preparation for this module is a bitch! There are so many creature encounters and battles that pulling the minis and printing stats would be a hurdle but NOT one I couldn't accomplish! Forgot how combat heavy this module is! Where should I start?
Bringing it back to where it all started for me 40 years ago...Keep on the Borderlands!
I owned it as it came with the set but never played it...being low level creates the perfect opportunity...
I will ponder on this question, and get back to you.
