DM Post #1
First, I am starting at Post #1 since the site is new. We have to leave the past behind and start anew. It will not be easy.
So, I have a mass of stuff! Too much crap to put away and I continue to buy. Yes, we all know I have a problem. However, this obsession is good and fun. I just need to figure out, with me being the oldest, when I die where it goes. Who wants 100,000 minis and another 10,0000 pieces of terrain? I don't even know the numbers anymore but unless Justin wants them, they are yours! Now don't start hoping for my early departure to get the goods! Let's not even start with accessories!
Post #81:
Here's an interesting question I thought I'd pose as it's something I go back and forth when painting typical animal minis. Do you think when painting animal minis it's best to keep them in line with what their true coloration is or is it cool to have some variations to their expected color. For example, let's say a beaver is usually brown. If I presented a group of beavers, should I paint them brown or is it better to maybe paint them up a different color such as grayish white or to go crazy blue. Now, that is just an example and I have no beavers to paint but I used this example to give you an idea of what I'm asking.
Now, I would never make a blue beaver look like a toy as the color would blend and look natural, but is painting natural animals an unexpected color something which is good or bad in your opinion?
Another Point with XP's:
So, how do you get xp's for your character? Well, there are many ways and I thought I'd post it here, so all are aware.
The first and biggest XP gain is probably not what you think week to week. It is game XP's that I award for good role/roll playing as well as keeping the game moving and fun. throughout the game. If you haven't noticed I give checks to players for things within the game. Besides good role/roll playing I most often give this for cheering on other players, being attentive in what's happening especially when it doesn't involve your PC and simply always being part of the game. These checks gain you xp's week to week in the game and can be a HUGE xp bonus for you. To be fair they are not always the biggest XP gain, but they most certainly can be depending on whether the game was a heavy battle game or not. When it's NOT then these are always the biggest XP gain.
The second is what you'd expect and that is XP's for battling monsters. However, this is all dependent on whether the game was battle heavy or not. At times this can be huge if you battled enemies with a CR above you but at other times it can be minimal if there are not many battles or if they are against CR creatures way below (CR= challenge rating). A creature's CR is rated against your level. So, if a creature is below your CR then you gain less xp's. If it's above, you gain more xp's for defeating an enemy above your grade.
The third are xp's gained from posts. At times this can be huge for big posters but non-existent for players that don't post much. Now, although this isn't the biggest xp gain it does make a difference as I have seen within our game. I have realized some players gaining levels above others simply because of their posting on the boards. Remember all get the same xp for battling creatures so this is a way to beat the average and get more than others.
The fourth is somewhat selfish but is what it is. Simply put I'll give xp's for anything cool you add to the game's enjoyment. That can be bringing something physical to the game to add, offering some cool news on gaming to all, conversation before or after game that is relevant and cool to the game ONLY, being on time, being at the game consistently, paying attention with eye contact when the DM is speaking as an NPC, again, being on time for the game and last playing your character as they are regardless of whether it had detrimental effects to the mission or group! PLAY YOUR CHARACTER!
