Hey All:
I'm starting this post for a fun way for us to post some of the best decisions, ideas, things that have happened, events, situations, game situations, DM Creations and we as a group made awesome for the game. Could be rules, players, game systems, things people do, things that happen, etc. I was thinking about this tonight and wanted to share some things that were on my mind.
I shared many thoughts tonight and have so many more but want to give you a time to post your thoughts before I post others.
Appreciate the callout. While I hadn't played in 20+ years, D&D has always been near & dear to me. Have incredible memories from our childhood. Let's get convention going. Always a great time!
OMG there is so much here, that I totally agree with, even though the one about the toliiet some may say, really. No I remeber we had to go upstairs. Having that bathrooom right there, makes things very conveinvant.
I must add, the Inititave board. Its perfect, so everyone can see it, no matter where they are sitting, with no issue.
I have to add the poster size maps that flesh out all of the major cities and sites in our game world! It makes it so real life to visit a place like Haven, or Gateway of of course...Montavail! We know that took MAJOR time and money and it is so important so a great investment and decison!
#12) Convention: Although it hasn't happened in a while Convention is the most epic, crazy and fun day of gaming. There is nothing like it and when we get together and play one it is always phenomenal! I miss it but don't miss ALL the work and effort that I have to put into it!! However, it's always worth that awesome night of gaming!
#11) Dan's Clean-Up: I have complimentary things to say about each of you but I want to space them out so don't feel offended if you haven't been mentioned yet. Dan always being the one to grab all the bottles and cans at the end of the night is awesome. It may seem minor but to me it isn't as I would forget that crap and have it down there the following week. His relentless battle in bringing up the beer cans and bottles is appreciated!
#10) Nidal's Table: I'm not sure if any remember one of my best friends in my younger gaming years Nidal. He lives in NYC and I still see him on occasion. He played for many, many years and was a great addition to the table. Anyways he shall go down in history as being the one who gave me the table we are currently playing on. His mother was getting rid of it so he offered it to me. It was a huge table and soo much bigger than what we were playing on. It has been a fantastic addition through all these years and is a great benefit we don't even consider. Table space for gaming is important and we have it!
#9) Having a Toilet in the Basement: Some may remember when my basement was unfinished and there was NO toilet. You had to go upstairs to do your thing. Now maybe that was a good thing as some leave a heavy after-trail in the basement but it's good that we can all access a bathroon downstairs.
#8) Minis: I must have one of the largest mini collections out there. I frequent mini boards and have a pretty good understanding of others collections. It always seems when ones mention numbers I'm almost always #1 way beyond the next. Remember I've been collecting since the first release of minis (Harbinger) and have never ended. I have stopped buying full cases for a while so I may fall behind other collectors at some point but I'm going to say I'm still at the top. So who really cares about this and what does that mean for you? Well the importance is I have every mini and creature ready to place down on the table that you will encounter. If by some miracle I don't have it I ALWAYS buy it.
Imagine if I were to place "Bottle caps" or paper prints of the minis on the table? I know you'd be OK with it but there would be a wierd feeling. You expect the minis at this point of our gaming! NO?
#7) Disagreements Always End in Understanding: When a major decision needs to be made with a disagreement I listen and take into consideration your opinion. Many times I side with you and on occasion I don't. However, the greatness is that we communicate and regardless of the outcome we have our voice heard. I'm always listening as I know you are. This seems natural in our game but is not always the norm in others (DM RULES - PERIOD - NO DISCUSSION).
#6) Consistency with the Same Players: Four of the five players have been with the game......forever. Yep, forever! And to my amazement I haven't gotten sick of ya 😁! There is much to be said about playing with the same group of people for such a long time. There is a comfort, understanding, friendship and recognition of what the game and other players are. It's wonderful having the same group come each week. Whether we were friends before the game or not the game has made all of us great friends.
#5) Understanding the Importance of Game Consistency: I've always been proud of the reliability of our weekly game. There is never a missed game on my end and you know each and every week if you arrive I'll be there ready. Even if it's a 2 player game I'll be there and come up with something to enjoy that night.
Many other games are inconsistent as players and DM's discuss each week whether the game is on or not. That would drive me crazy and you always know "the game is ON"!
#4) Condition Chips: I made these way before D&D decided to make their own and ours are still better. These chips make things so easy when a condition occurs to a player or enemy in the game. We don't have to look up the rules in the book and we have the chip right besides us to reference when and if needed. Speeds up the game and they look good too!
#3) Original Character Sheets: It's great having specific character sheets for each class unlike the standard D&D/Pathfinder sheets which are very generic. You have all your specific skills highlighted,, spell sections, equipment section, etc. It's great for our game to have these sheets for each class.
#2) Critical Hits and Misses: Continuing to use critical hits and misses in the game. I love this system and when they removed this from the game I was very disappointed. I'm glad I made my own chart of each as it works out great. I also love that a roll of 20 means a bigger bonus and a roll of 1 means a greater penalty. Fun and I would never remove criticals from our game.
#1) Pete Being Brought Into the Game: Bringing in Pete as the 5th player has been great. He's been a great addition to the game, reliable, a good friend to all and a great addition to the table with a different outlook than many but within our scope of gaming. Finding players is tough but finding one that melds so well can be close to impossible. Pete fits the bill!
